about us / support and collaborate / national government, local authorities, public bodies

public funders

Our projects respond to specific public policies: cultural rights, arts and cultural education, the politique de la ville (France’s policy for priority urban neighborhoods), youth, memory and international cooperation. We build them with local organizations, and we report back on them.

what our projects bring to public policy

  • residents as authorsCultural rights put into practice: participants choose the subjects, the images, the words and how the work is shared.
  • hands-on visual literacyReading and making images, preparing an interview, writing a caption, speaking in public at a presentation.
  • public presentations where people liveConcrete decks, lobbies, fences, facades, community centers, libraries: exhibitions that reach people beyond the usual audiences of cultural venues.
  • neighborhoods through residents’ eyesSensory maps, collected testimonies, design proposals: material for urban policy, city planning and memory work.
  • a lasting recordBodies of photographs, interviews, films, booklets and exhibitions that can be shown again, handed over to local partners.

the frameworks our projects fit into

  • cultureArts and cultural education, artist residencies in local areas, cultural programming and cultural rights.
  • politique de la villeProjects in priority neighborhoods, as part of the “Engagements quartiers 2030” city contracts.
  • youth and popular educationProjects with youth organizations, community and neighborhood centers, and schools.
  • memory and heritageNeighborhood memory, support for urban renewal projects, cooperation with archive services.
  • international cooperationExchanges between working-class neighborhoods in France, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Algeria.

a few figures

784people took part in the project or saw the exhibition at Cité Champagne, at least half of the neighborhood’s residents (Argenteuil, 2022, our estimate)
3,446visitors to the Petit Nanterre exhibition (2022, our estimate)
3,500visitors to the multi-site exhibition “le sport à La Noue et à La Capsulerie,” including 1,500 in the two neighborhoods (Bagnolet, 2022, our estimate)

how we work together

  1. a request from the field

A local organization, a group, a question: we always start from a real situation.

  2. a written framework

Goals, participants, schedule, venues, roles, permissions, public presentation and lasting record.

  3. a complete budget

It covers the whole process: preparation, coordination, equipment, artists’ fees, production, rights, documentation and evaluation.

  4. a shared evaluation

The work produced, attendance, qualitative feedback and next steps, given to each partner.
