Two neighborhoods, two times of day, two images that answer each other. As in favela ocho, where the young people of Llanaditas, in Medellín, answered the photos from Rocinha and Maré.

how the photos answer each other
When two neighborhoods made an exhibition together, their photos answer each other as they did on the posters: in Llanaditas, each young person chose an image from Rocinha or Maré and answered it with an image of their own neighborhood. Otherwise, they answer each other through what they show: children, streets, the sky, coffee.
Above each image, the time it is there, right now.

une vue vraiment !
I took this photo because my building is in it and I like the difference between the buildings. This is Sesto, it's like the Caps but a bit smaller.
L’entraide : sport national au quartier
In the neighborhood, people help each other… When a little one is struggling, a big one is there for him. And even when he isn’t struggling, he tries to guide him in life. That’s a chain we try to keep going between everyone in the neighborhood. A chain that weaves bonds of solidarity and brings the community of the estate together.

le collier bleu
In this photo, you see a dog looking at the camera. It has a blue collar.
les sestoiens
They're residents of the neighborhood, always hanging out with their friends for a good while. They're Mory and Alsain, two tall teenagers.
enko 93
I chose this photo because it's my friend Enzah. We've known each other since we were little, and even if she doesn't like this photo, honestly, she's got aura. In the background, there's the park where everyone hangs out.

comment trouvez-vous ce quartier ?
“I feel really good in the neighborhood. I feel very much part of it. I was born here and I fully intend to stay. On the whole, we all get on well. Everyone is helpful and everyone is very warm.”
la mascotte
Photo of HIPPO, the mascot of the AUTHENTICITÉ association. On the right of the photo, I'm kneeling down taking a photo. I wrecked my knees.
le bât
In this photo, I see a tower. It's tall. The sky was blue.
Mon quartier
In my neighborhood, there are houses, associations, buildings, shops and markets.
“The neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired. There are lots of things that aren't that good. If I could move, I'd gladly move.”
terrain
In the photo you can see a court for football, or more especially basketball. Behind it you can see the hoop. You can also see two people who seem to be talking. I chose this photo because I like the effect of one white part and the other full of detail, separated as if by a flame.
le foyer
I see windows and clothes hanging out. I chose this photo because my grandpa lives here. One day there was a fire, and the firefighters came. A dragon breathed fire and the house burned down.
Barbecue party
This photo shows community life in Nanterre and at Zy’Va. Plus, it’s pretty!
“I find Petit Nanterre very pleasant. For me, the neighborhood is nice because the schools are next to the housing and we have everything close by. We know the people in the neighborhood, they're kind. I think relations between adults are good. They're sometimes harder with some young people, especially when it comes to respecting the spaces for children. There are lots of scooters in the skatepark and on the sports ground.”
la tour dix-neuf
I used to play hide-and-seek in the basement. I have lots of memories of this building.
un bâtiment
I really like the windows on this building.
Réflexion solaire

“For me, the neighborhood is fine. I think I'm lucky to live here. Relations between people work well.”
l’ancien poirier
“The pear passage”. Once, where this mosaic pear stands, a pear tree was planted. This pear was created by the daughter of the famous architect Émile Aillaud. I've lived here since I was three.
cages d’escaliers
Photos of the stairs of the five towers. I chose this photo because it's stylish!
Moi, Zakaria
I live in the Petit Nanterre, next to the Canibouts. I like my neighborhood.
le serpent est à nous
I really like this photo because it has us in it, the children of Authenti-Cité. There are the towers, which are really beautiful. And there is the tip of the serpent.
comment trouvez-vous les relations avec les autres ?
“My son was born here; for me, that's my best memory.”
une tour aillaud
It's one of Émile Aillaud's Nuages Towers. In the picture, you can see a light side and a dark side. And leaves next to the tower.
noirmoutier
We're with my mates in the tower before it gets demolished. I chose this photo because Noirmoutier is an iconic tower of the five towers.
Tacos
O’Tacos, I’ve been there to eat loads of times :)
In my dream neighborhood there is my serpent girl with lots of colors, pink, green, blue, light purple. All these colors are pastel. On the square, there will be a funfair with lots of stalls, attractions and rides. There will be a hairdresser, and on the left a playground and an African restaurant. On the right, there will be a shopping mall with a Nike, a Primark, an Action and an Ikea. We will also have a soccer field, a farm with animals running free, the famous Brians towers and stars. Next to the soccer stadium, there is a stand to buy tickets. At the roundabout, the metro line of the turfu goes around, with a swimming pool. There is an Auchan and a Cultura, not forgetting Authenti-Cité. There are five bakeries and the Pablo Picasso market, and the André Malraux park with a movie theater, and a huge villa.
comment trouvez-vous les relations avec les autres ?
“Relations with others are only just okay. Everyone is squeezed into their own home and they're afraid of mixing with others.”
la tour du futur
This is La Défense, a huge shopping center with every kind of shop, fast food and so on. This photo shows us the difference between the two neighborhoods.
les misérables
Between the people's shadows and the orange light, it makes a really beautiful photo, worthy of a scene from the film “Les Misérables”.
L’école de la Fontaine
Many generations have gone through it, where the memories, the joy and the soccer games happened in the playground. It is where the future generations of society are prepared.
“For me, the neighborhood's identity is how close people are here.”
le serpent géant
In the foreground, that's me (I'm not picking my nose!), then behind you have part of the mosaic sculpture and the tallest tower in the neighborhood: number 17. I don't even know when the picture was taken, but I think I look really pretty. PS: I'm still not picking my nose!
le city
A place where I played as a kid, now shared with the little ones.
Stade
I play basketball and soccer here!
la bouche du serpent
Here is a photograph of the serpent's mouth. The serpent is a large sculpture with a park. The serpent park is a place to relax, where families rest and have fun. Many people in the neighborhood know this park and spent their childhood there.
le synthé
Lots of tournaments happened here. We loved it! I nailed everything. Top corner! Step-overs!
La nature
Forests and nature are under threat. I like the forest, because nature is beautiful.
In my dream neighborhood, I would love to have a water park next to our place, free for kids and 1 euro for the adults who come with them. And also an ice rink with a warm floor, and for it to be free. A Mac Bucket, free on Saturdays and, in December, on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a multicolored pear, called “the Pear of the future”. An 8-story swimming pool for just 1 euro. In the street, people are super nice and the neighborhood is clean. There is a 6D movie theater (too long to explain). They hand out water bottles and pastries, very important. All the residents have a pet. The young people of the neighborhood are very nice and don’t cause damage anymore. The police don’t exist anymore because there are no more problems and everyone has money. There are no more homeless people. Paris has won everything and crushed every team. They are champions of all of Europe, while OM whines and is the worst in Europe. Paris SG <3
le bitume et la verdure
These are two elements that live side by side in our cities. Between runaway urbanization and protecting nature, it is vital to find a balance to preserve our environment and our quality of life.
jul au quartier
That's my mates and me doing the Jul sign in the Zilis stadium. I chose this photo because it's friendly and it reminds me of my killer tackle in that stadium.
Le foyer Adoma
History through a migration: it’s the symbol of the history of immigration, it’s the embodiment of the world coming from every destination.
le rêve
le serpent
We took this photo from above and you can see Granny Adja down below. You can also see the serpent sculpture. I chose this photo because you can see the serpent well and Hadja is tiny, it makes me laugh!

“I came here because my wife worked for the SNCF, so we applied for housing, and I don't regret it. I'm so happy here! I'm really good in Drancy, it's peaceful. And we have lots of friends, we have the parents' coffee morning, we set up our association in the cité… I'm the general secretary.”
simbara
“I started working at the Cité du Nord in 2011. People had told me it was a rough place, but when I arrived I got a really warm welcome. On the first day I was wearing a suit and tie, which made people laugh a lot… So the next day I toned down the outfit.”
la gare depuis la cité
“People used to say: don't go through there, you could get caught in the cité. I kept going. When I started up the slope, I walked very, very fast.” “I'd take it when there were no cameras and no lights.” “I had a rather heavy trolley with the post office phone books to deliver. Some people told me not to go, that it was a sensitive area. I didn't listen. And nobody did anything at all.”
depuis le ciel, 1931
les femmes du nord
Here for a long time or just passing through, the women of the Cité du Nord meet regularly at the municipal community center to take part in the activities run by Nadyne.
les femmes du nord
jamila
“The cité is part of my mother's daily life; she walks past it every day on her way to work. She used to take me there when I was little: I'd go to my aunt's, play at the foot of building N and go and buy chocolate barquettes at the Franprix. As a teenager, I'd go and revise at the media library just behind: we'd meet in front of the cité to catch the 143 home.”

le café des parents
Every week, residents get together one morning over coffee. They come and go through the municipal community center, talking about the neighborhood, their daily lives, everything and nothing. All sorts of insignificant things happen there that fascinate me: the way the space organizes itself, the murmurs, the exclamations, the little bags people swap, the helping hands, the news people share. In our conversations, I felt memory unfold little by little: from the 1980s to today, from their arrival to their grandchildren, we shared what ties us to Drancy, to the Cité du Nord and to this place.
qamis d’été
Meïté Bouaké, Diallo Macka and Mamadou Ballo are members of the Cité du Nord families' association. Every week, you can find them at the community center for the families' coffee morning.
“We arrived here in 1980. We're the children of railway workers. Our dads worked for the SNCF.” “There was a big Moroccan community, like us. They were the contract workers brought over from Morocco. The SNCF, among other companies, needed labor. At the end of the 60s and the start of the 70s, they went to Morocco to recruit workers, and that's where most of our parents come from.” “They gathered almost all of them in Casablanca. They had to pass medical checks. And once they were accepted, they were brought over here.”
abdoulaye
Abdoulaye often turns up late to the parents' coffee morning. But he often brings biscuits, so everyone's happy. Sometimes he has a book in his hand too. Last time it was “La mafia des cités.

“Before, on the avenue Marceau, just next door, we had everything close at hand: shops, bakers, shoe shops, hardware stores, dry cleaners, fishmongers… it was huge, but now there's a lot less”; “Drancy is changing a lot: and when they knock down the old millstone houses, it always makes me sad. You know, here it's the paris-campagne neighborhood, and it really is like a village.”

An hour later, I find her at the center making lunch with the women of the neighborhood. They share a recipe, laugh, chat.

The Cité du Nord was born with the growth of the railway in Drancy. Built at the end of the 19th century by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord, it housed railway workers near the marshalling yard, in small houses with gardens. From the 1960s, these houses were gradually replaced by apartment blocks, which were renovated in the 2010s. A short walk from the cité, the Le Bourget RER B station carries this railway history on. The line crosses the cité as much as it connects it: a line people pass along, used every day by residents from all over the Île-de-France.
“Today, even if you gave me a house in Paris, I wouldn't go. Because I'm used to it here. We're together, we have associations, we help each other, we see each other all the time.” “People here are like a family. That's what I love. When you step out of here, you feel really good.”

quand rayan tire, le stade tremble
I wanted my photo to be in the exhibition to represent Îles de Mars and because I have lots of friends. My name is Rayan. I love football. I play in Le Pont-de-Claix. I live in Îles de Mars.
la télé
It's the best-known tower in the neighborhood… We have lots of memories there. When we were little, we hung around there all the time. It's not just the colors that have changed.
city stade
As you can see in the photo: this is the Îles de Mars sports court, where we all grew up. Since we were little, we've all played together at “12 months,” “Spanish,” “petit pont boulette,” for those in the know. The court is the childhood memory only the real ones know.
chez nous
We see brothers from the neighborhood playing Brazilian-style, even though they're French, Algerian, Moroccan. We're at the Îles de Mars sports court. It's our HQ: where we laughed, fought, cried. The court kind of raised us, so to speak.
mosquée de paris
It's the neighborhood mosque, where everyone meets on Fridays for jumu'ah or during Ramadan. It's next to the church. Made for prayer, it's one of the only sacred places in Le Pont-de-Claix.

olhar profundo
